Tip 32 - Music
I'm dedicating an entire page to music because it is so important in a game like Galactic Civilizations.
Don't get me wrong, I love the music in Dark Avatar - it's wonderful... but when you spend 100 hours playing a game - the same melodies can kind of drag after a while - especially when it's the same 2-5 minute pieces repeating endlessly. So sometimes it's good to change things up a bit.
There are 4 directories that contain all the music for the game. The music in the Dark Avatar directory over-rides that in the root Gal Civ 2 directory.

I want to swap out the main theme that plays the most, and I'm going to put in a longer piece of music. One of my favorite musical scores of all time was created by Michael Z. Land for an old Lucasarts game called, "The Dig". http://dig.mixnmojo.com/downloads/index.html (if you have your speakers on/up that's the music now playing in the background).
For this example we're going to replace the main theme that plays most often.
I first made a back of the music file I want to replace (DA_MainTheme.mp3)
I copied my new music over (Mission to the Asteroid from The Dig).

Now all I have to do (above), is delete the original music file (DA_MainTheme.mp3), and rename the "Mission to the Asteroid" file to DA_MainTheme.mp3
I'll repeat the above steps, but this time I'll replace the Space07.mp3 file.
Music from "2001 Space Odyssey", Holst's "The Planets", "Star Wars", are all fun replacements you can use. Personally I like going back to older pc games and using that music. i.e. Ascendancy, The Dig, Masters of Orion, etc.
