Keeping the game fresh & fun!
One of the complaints I've seen most often leveled at the game is when people
think the game has become too predictable or plays out the same way every time.
So here's a list of things people often overlook as too obvious (and some
not-so-obvious) ideas.
- Bump up the difficulty level. Unless you're playing on "Tough"
(all the individual AI's are on "Intelligent") - then the artificial
intelligence isn't at it's best.
- Play on a larger map. Remember, a larger map doesn't always mean a
longer game. The habitable planet setting and number of races squished
on a map have a just as much an impact on play length as the map size.
- Change the AI so each opponent is using differing levels. I NEVER
did this before, and then one game I set all the races to "Beginner"
except one... and that one I set to "Intelligent". WOW, did this
ever make a crazy game! In fact it had to have been one of the best
games I've had to date.
- Play a different race! So many people replay each game with the same
2 races. Things are very different with varying races - forcing you to
play differently.
- Turn on/off tech trading. This will also make for a very different
game. The choices you make in research are extremely important since you
may not be able to auction for them.
- Have you slowed down to make your own sets of ships? Do it!
- Speed up the tech rate or slow it way down. Both make for different
games. Slowing tech down to a crawl s fun since it gives you more time
to focus on ship building.
- One of the great things about Stardock is they have fantastic post-release
game support. About the best in the entire game industry. So every
week or so, load up Stardock Central and see if there's a new update for the
game.
- Change up the music. If you missed that page go
review it. Adding some musical variety can make a big difference.
