Did you know you could do this?  Or Don't Forget You Can Do This!!

Most of these are taken from the Gal Civ forums.  Much of it written by the game's designer. Brad Wardell.  http://forums.galciv2.com/?forumid=162&aid=102205&p=1#1120181

Get the Galactopedia!  It's an external program the looks up the game's technology tree and lets your browse it at a glance.

Tip X - On Extreme Planets, the AI Governor does not automatically start fixing up swampy unusable tiles with things like soil enhancement.  Make sure you check those extreme planets after you get  a tech like Soil Enhancement!

Tip X - If you hit the 'H' key it'll bring up your home planet.

Tip X - Pressing 'C' will center on the selected ship (in case you got lost somewhere else on the map).

Tip X - You can "grab" the map with the left mouse button and move it around by holding it down.

Tip X - You can also fast scroll by holding down the left mouse button on the mini map and move the mouse around.

Tip X - You can RIGHT-CLICK on the ship built block notifications that flow down on the right and your ship will automatically be launched.

Tip X - On the planet screen, you can put your mouse over the approval and influence and it will explain where that number is derived from.

Tip X - In the Diplomacy screen, you can RIGHT-CLICK on items to bring up a dialog that gives info on that item.

Tip X - You can double click on planets and various other items to take the place of having to place, or install or build or go to their screen.

Tip X - Hitting '4' will max zoom out.

Tip X - You can upgrade colony ships to custom constructors and you can upgrade constructor ships to custom colony ships. This can be very useful if you get all the way to the planet and someone beats you to it, but happen to notice there's an unclaimed resource nearby.... Also helps when you've built too many CS and all the planets are claimed, just upgrade them to custom constructors and build Starbases!

Tip X - In the ship design screen you can rotate the view by clicking and holding the middle mouse button.

Tip X - You can click repeatedly on a stack of ships and it cycles through each ship in the stack.

Tip X - If your planet has no slots left to build on, you can select a square with something on it, and choose to "upgrade" it to something different.  It will get built much faster than if you were building on a blank square.

Tip X - Alternative uses for Colony Ships - They can do is ferry population around; particularly, to those newly-conquered planets that only have 100 million population. They also serve as a deterrent for enemy transports. If a colony ship is in orbit, that stops a transport just as much as a Defender.

Tip X - You can press spacebar to end any remaining moves on your selected ship (or fleet) and skip to the next available ship.

Tip X - If a ship is selected, you can right click the mini map, and the ship will go there is it's within range.

Tip X - You can Rename any ship, planet, or Starbase, even if it is controlled by another player.

Tip X - CTRL-S is the quick save

Tip X - You can double-click on the icons of ships in the ship list menu (F1) to order them to use their movement points if they are on auto pilot.

Tip X - Did you know that you can't get back into the United Planets if you leave?

Tip X - Did you know that in DA you can build Basic Factories now even after you've researched Industrial Sector? On the planet screen, there are now three tabs "New", "Old", and "All" at the top of the social improvements scrollbar. You no longer have to postpone research because it takes so stinking long to build the upgraded building.

Tip X - What's the difference between a Galactic Achievement and a Trade Good?  A Trade Good can be traded.  A Galactic Achievement cannot.  If you like, you can sell that bonus (while keeping it yourself) in exchange for techs, money, etc, to the AI's, or buy it from them if they have the trade good.  If you lose the planet the trade good is on, then the conqueror will gain it's benefit and you lose it (same as with a wonder). Anyone you traded it to will still have the benefit, though, in this case (response provided by Kyro).

Tip X - I asked people about the ship views they enjoy, and the thread ended up being very informative.     http://forums.galciv2.com/?aid=144646#1134485
